The general election immediately preceding Bloomsday took place between September 26 and October 24, 1900.  Between then and June 16, 1904, there were seventeen by-elections in Ireland.

By-Elections through June 16, 1904
There were eight contested by-elections between the General Elections of 1900 and Bloomsday. There were also nine uncontested elections. Changes in members were as follows:


Monaghan North  (December 21, 1900)
Dr. Edward C. Thompson replaced Macalee (died).

Cork Middle  (May 17, 1901)
Daniel D. Sheehan replaced Tanner (died).

Galway City  (November 21, 1901)
Arthur Lynch replaced Morris (succeeded as Lord Kilanin). Contested election; change from Unionist to Nationalist.

Down East (February 5, 1902)
James Wood replaced Rentoul (appointed judge). Contested election; change from Unionist to Independent Unionist.

Down South  (February 19, 1902)
Jeremiah Devlin replaced McCartan (resigned).

Kilkenny North  (February 26, 1902)
Joseph Devlin replaced McDermott (resigned).

Monaghan South  (March 4, 1902)
John McKean replaced Daly (resigned).

Donegal West  (April 25, 1902)
Hugh A. Law replaced Boyle (resigned).

Belfast South  (August 18, 1902)
Thomas H. Sloan replaced Johnston (death). Contested election; change from Unionist to Independent Unionist.

Antrim South  (February 5, 1903)
Charles C. Craig replaced McCartney (resigned). Contested election; no change in party.

Dublin University  (March 5, 1903)
James H. Mussen Campbell replaced Lecky (resigned).  Contested election; change from Liberal Unionist to Unionist.

Galway City  (March 9, 1903)
Charles R. Devlin replaced Lynch (convicted of high treason).

Fermanagh North  (March 20, 1903)
Edward Mitchell replaced Archdale (resigned). Contested election; change from Liberal Unionist to Unionist.

Kildare South  (May 23, 1903)
Denis Kilbride replaced Minch (resigned).

Meath South  (October 9, 1903)
David Sheehy replaced Carew (died). Contested election: change from Independent Nationalist to Nationalist.

Dublin St. Stephen's Green (March 21, 1904)
Lawrence A. Waldron replace McCann (died). Contested election; no change in party.
